The Legion of Mary
Founded by Frank Duff in Ireland on September 7th 1921, Legion of Mary is the largest lay apostolic movement in the Catholic Church with over 10 million members (both active and auxiliary) world wide. The works of the Legion Of Mary are directed towards spiritual works of mercy for people of all races, status and ages.
The Legion Of Mary is divided into small units called Praesiduim which has got up to 20 members who meet weekly at their respect parish.
At St. Charles Lwanga sub-parish, the Legion Of Mary has been divided into 3 Preasidia namely:
- Seat Of Wisdom: Is the Luganda speaking presidium.
- Queen Of Apostles: Is the oldest presidium and is for the Luganda speaking Christians
- Cause Of Our Joy: Is the English presidium and mainly comprises the youth
Special days ear-marked by the Legion Of Mary are:
- Assumption (15th August) where the Legionaries converge for an overnight at the parish church in Naggulu.
- Arcies (23rd March) where consecration to the Holy Virgin is rejuvenated through renewed commitment to the most Holy Virgin.
- The Legionaries also plan and carry out retreats and honor major church days on the Catholic calendar.
